首先美国小托福考试词汇题中所考到的词汇一般情况下有动词和形容词和名词这三种，其中绝大部分是动词和形容词。下面讲解一下形容词。
形容词：
接下来再来看看另外一类常考词性，形容词。

这道题中我们发现形容词distinct出现在一句概括句中，此举后面的内容全部是这句话的具体解释说明，因此答案一定可以在后文中寻找出来，distinct这个词修饰的对象是tail这个名词，在这里它是解释为天文学属于彗差的意思，然而解题过程中我们并不需要理解它的意思，只需要把它当作一个普通的名词就可以了，我们从one以及the
other两个词语得出两种tail各自具有不同的特性，因为得出这两种tail之间是完全不同的。因此看到四个选项我们得出答案C，separate是分离的、独立的意思，与distinct不同的意思最接近。
再来看另外一道考察形容词的题目：

这道题是我们小托福考试阅读词汇中常见的一种考察形容词的题目类型，称为修饰指向性名词的形容词。何为指向性名词?此题中vast修饰的majority就是一个典型的例子。它的意思是大部分的，也就是修饰它的形容词必须在意思上和它表示同样的意思，也就是多数的。另外这样的指向性名词还有例如：giant巨人、difficulty难度、metropolis大都市等等。因此这道题如果我么能够看到它的实质就直接可以在选项中寻找表示数量大的词也就是D选项。
