1. let…down 意为“使……失望”，其中 let 为使役动词，“使，让”；down为形容词，“悲哀，沮丧”。
Work hard and don’t let your parents down.
努力工作，不要让你父母失望。
You have done a good job. You haven’t let us down.
你做的不错，你没有让我们失望。
除了let sb. do sth. 这一重要句型外，let还可用于let + sb. /sth. + adj. /adv. /prep.

down的几种常见用法
(1) 介词，意为“沿着……”, 相当于along。
Go straight down this street and you’ll find a book store on your left.
沿着这条街往前走走，你会发现在你的左边有一个书店。
Walk directly down the road and you'll get to the square.
沿着这条路直走你就会到达广场。
(2) 副词， 意为“向下; 在下面; 由强到弱; 由高到低”等，和up 相对。常和某些动词连用，如 sit down 坐下； put down 放下；cut down切下来；come down下来；turn down调低； write down记下； break down （机器）故障，损坏；fall down 跌倒；pull down 拆下，摧毁。
